Frosted Mug 5K Run

The Frosted Mug Run 5k lived up to its chilly name, as nearly 300 runners braved the wet and cold weather to race around Harker Heights December 8th 2018.
It was cold, and wet. The weather was everything you expect for a Central Texas December, the day before sunny and warm and then a wild storm blows through dropping temps and bringing rain. That, however, didn't stop nearly 300 runners from racing through the Harker Heights Community Park and parts of Harker Heights.

Starting the morning off was the kids run. A dozen or so children lined up ready to bare the cold for their chance at the first place medal. Though they all got medals in the end, it was a tight race with two young boys going neck and neck right up to the end.

While waiting for racers to make their 5000 meter trip around the park and neighborhood, friends and family were kept entertained by one of the breweries, with hula hoops, or at one of the other vendor tents.

As runners started coming across the finish line they were greeted with cheers and beers from one of the local breweries Barrow Brewery and Bold Republic Brewing Company.

One of my favorite people of the morning was a young 3 year old boy who braved the cold to hand out water bottles and bananas to racers as they crossed the finish line.

As the title, Frosted Mug Run, implies, runners crossing the finish line were treated to a victory beer from their choice from one of the breweries on hand. Many a merry moment was shared between runners while holding a beer in hand, each congratulating one another for completing the race.
